Barry Cheslin, M.A.
Suzanne Cohen, EdD, CGP, FAGPA
Dr. Suzanne L. Cohen is a Licensed Psychologist, Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP), Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (FAGPA) and Certified Nia Instructor (Black Belt). Suzanne has over 30 years of experience providing individual, couples and group therapy. She is currently Clinical Instructor in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. For the past 25 years she has been a member of the Faculty of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy Training Program. For the past six years Suzanne has taught classes in The Nia Technique in the Boston Area and has led workshops for psychotherapists in the integration of somatic awareness and clinical work. She maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Wellesley and Attleboro, MA.

Lise Motherwell, Psy.D. is on the faculties of the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy, and the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, where she co-teaches Group Therapy. She is a Clinical Assistant in Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, at MGH and a Clinical Instructor in Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, at Harvard Medical School. She is President of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy, and in private practice in Brookline, MA where she conducts assessments of children and adolescents and treats children, adolescents, adults, and groups. She recently published an edited book with Joseph Shay, Ph.D. titled
Complex Dilemmas in Group Therapy: Pathways to Resolution.
Cecil Rice, PhD, CGP, FAGPA
Cecil Rice is a Past President of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy, President and co-founder of the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy, Associate Editor of the
International Journal for Group Psychotherapy, and a co-founder of the Boston Threshold Group (Northern Ireland Group Psychotherapy Conference). He teaches at Harvard Medical School and has a private practice in Needham MA. He has written widely in the field of group psychotherapy, and he is currently studying and writing about the effects of Northern Ireland’s thirty years of civic strife on therapy groups, their members and leaders.
Walker Shields, MD, CGP, FAGPA
Walker Shields, M.D., is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who practices individual, couples, group psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis in Belmont, Massachusetts. During the past 30 years, while engaging in his clinical work, he has supervised psychiatry residents, psychology interns, and fellows in clinical training at McLean Hospital and the Harvard Medical School. He is a Past President of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy and a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. He is a member of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and the American Psychoanalytic Association. His publications include clinical applications of the work of Winnicott, Bion, and the group relations, (Tavistock), approach to the study of groups and social systems.
Kathleen Ulman, PhD, CGP, FAGPA
Kathleen Hubbs Ulman, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and the Director of the Center for Group Psychotherapy, Massachusetts General Hospital. She is the Chairperson of the NSGP Foundation and a Past President of NSGP. Dr. Ulman has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the American Group Psychotherapy Association and currently is co-chair of their Community Outreach Task Force. She has led psychotherapy for groups for over 30 years in both clinic and private practice settings. She has served as a faculty member in the Group Training Program of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy where she has supervised, taught classes and led training groups. Dr. Ulman is also a cofounder of the Boston Threshold Group (Northern Ireland Group Psychotherapy Conference). Dr. Ulman has presented nationally and internationally and published articles on a variety of aspects of group therapy.
Alan Witkower, EdD, CGP
Dr. Alan Witkower is a licensed psychologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of chronic pain and chronic medical illness. He is currently Director of Psychology for Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital’s Pain Program and Assistant Director of Spaulding’s Outpatient Pain Service in Medford, MA. He is a Clinical Instructor in Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, at Harvard Medical School and is a Clinical Associate at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Witkower holds an appointment at the Bedford VA Medical Center in Bedford, MA as a group therapy and research consultant. Dr. Witkower has presented extensively on chronic pain management, chronic illness coping and chronic opioid therapy for persistent, non-cancer pain. He has authored articles and chapters on topics including cognitive-behavioral therapy with neurological conditions and the behavioral assessment and treatment of chronic pain disorders. Dr. Witkower has been a member of the NSGP and the AGPA for the past 25 years.
